Functional medicine seeks to find the root causes of a disease rather than treating symptoms for temporary relief. Conventional physicians are trained to make a diagnosis and treat that diagnosis based on standard protocols for the disease without much consideration for the bio-individuality of the patient or the environment within which the disease exists. The same issue, if approached by someone trained in functional medicine, would likely instigate a conversation with the patient about what environmental, genetic, and lifestyle factors may be contributing to their disease state. More so, numerous factors — poor diet, inactivity, hormonal imbalances, chronic inflammation — can have an impact on numerous parts of the body simultaneously.
A functional medicine training is not a standalone degree. Think of it more as postgraduate education. Physicians, osteopaths, chiropractors, nurses, naturopaths, nutritionists, and others can attend functional medicine courses to build on their education and expertise to sharpen their clinical skills and most importantly improve their patient outcomes.
Upon completing your training, you will receive a certificate for completing the course with a Certified Functional Wellness Coach C-FWC designation.
We have ensured that the curriculum is broken down into short manageable pieces. Live classes typically take 90minutes, the video lessons are about 30 minutes or less, and we expect required readings and quizzes to take about 3 hours. Overall, we anticipate a total of 5 to 6 hours per week of course work.
No, you will not have to travel for any of our courses. While some training programs require that you attend in-person trainings, our program is delivered virtually, so you can learn from the comfort of your home or office.
Each of our foundational courses will run over 3 months, but you have up to 2 years to complete all trainings in order to get board certified. The board certification can be achieved in as little as 9 months if all courses are completed back to back.
